Tip For Keeping Strawberries Longer

How many times have you purchased a punnet of strawberries, only to throw them away a day or two later?  I know I use to tell myself not to buy them, as I was just wasting my pennies.  Well here is a little tip to make those strawberries last longer.  I have tried this little trick a number of times and I can honestly say they lasted anywhere from 1-2 weeks after I bought them home.

I can't remember where I read about this, but I do know it sure does work.  So for 10 minutes out of your day try this and see the results for yourself.

What you need to do:

  1. Fill your sink or a bowl with water, for every 2 cups water, place 1/4 cup vinegar.  You can use either white or apple cider vinegar.
  2. Let them sit in the water for about 5 mins.
  3. Place strawberries in a colander and rinse under running water.
  4. Place on a piece of paper towel/absorbent paper, and allow to dry.
  5. Once completely dry, place uncovered in the fridge.

How Does It Work?

The anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties in the vinegar will kill the bacteria and mould spores on the strawberries.

You will certainly not taste the vinegar.

Great little tip.
