Uses for Silken Tofu

Silken tofu is a form of tofu that is commonly used instead of dairy in a variety of dishes. Tofu is made from soy bean curds that are first turned into soy milk and than coagulated into the thick tofu substance that is high in protein. Tofu can be found at your supermarket, and is usually sold in blocks that are packed in water to retain freshness during storage. 

 

Here are a few ideas for using Silken Tofu as a main ingredient for a number of dishes.

 

  • Mayonnaise – 2T each of lemon juice, Dijon mustard, basil, chives, 300g packet of silken tofu, blend until smooth.

 

  • Smoothie – mix ¼ packet into morning smoothie

 

  • Chocolate Mousse – melt 1 ½ c dark chocolate pieces and blend with a packet of silken tofu.  Chill for several hours.

 

  • Frosting – blend a packet of tofu thoroughly with 1T each of veggie oil, lemon juice and honey.

 

  • Marinade – mix ½ c tofu with 1T of garlic, ginger, brown sugar, lemon juice and olive oil.  Good for fish and salmon.
